Kidding Season 2026

Kidding season wave one is complete. Wave two started off with a perfect kidding, minimal assist with 1 doeling so far!! Yes, Finally! Starting things off with Tilly who was due on May 5th, she had her little doeling right on the expected due date, and during the daytime, so no sleep lost, even.

Unfortunately, as it does happen with livestock, we did have a loss. Iris, who was due next month kidded far too early. She is being monitored at home. We're in contact with our veterinarian and samples have been sent off to try to determine a reason.

We are running 4:1 boys to girls so far. Next doe due is Gem, due Jun 1st. Hopefully she's got a doe in there, we would love to have another kid from her here.

For those newer to following along, a few things we keep an eye on as kidding approaches include softening ligaments, changes in posture, and subtle shifts in behavior. Most does prefer solitude, and no two deliveries ever look exactly alike. Our role is mostly to observe, stay ready, and step in only if needed.

I do try to be there for every birth, but remain as hands off as possible until they actually make it out. This is one of those times that if something goes sideways, earlier intervention is better and can be the difference between live kids and healthy doe or not. I actually keep a baby monitor on them so I'm not bugging them so much.

The vet was out at the end of October for herd testing. Everyone tested negative for everything as expected. We'll be keeping a closed herd the next couple years with the only exception being bringing home Nugget. The only other additions will be our own home grown kids. We don't show, so nobody will be leaving and bringing anything home, either. See our Herd Health page for more info. Documentation can be provided upon request.

We disbud here if they're not born polled. If you are looking for a horned kid, we can accommodate with a non refundable deposit, but you have to catch us before they're 5 days old. All kids being sold will be registered and DNA sent off for the bucklings.

I reserve the right to retain any kids born here. I don't ask for deposits on reservations (unless you want one to remain horned) but I do expect you to stay in contact and respond when the kid is ready to pick up.
