Winter Shuffle & Spring Surprises

Kidding calendar changes, goat pregnancy updates

As winter edges closer, the goats have been keeping us on our toes in true goat fashion. We originally expected a tightly packed kidding season in January to February, but a few of the ladies had other plans. Tilly, Iris, and Gem are now expected to kid in May. A bit later than I would like but farming always comes with surprises, and sometimes the herd rearranges the calendar for us, we just follow along and adjust as needed.

On the brighter side, Ruby and Poppy are right on schedule, and their udders are beginning to fill in beautifully. Watching them change week by week is one of our favorite parts of the season. January 4th is getting close! We expect to still start having milk available around February 1st.

Today we added fresh shavings to the shelters, which the goats always appreciate and Tails decided the shavings bag itself was the real entertainment. There’s always one who has to “help.”

The electric fence is fully repaired and running strong again after last week’s mischief, so everyone is contained and content where they should be.
