Welcome to Loki Farms
About Loki Farms
Welcome to Loki Farms, where passion meets practicality in the heart of our homestead. Our story started with an unexpected twist—due to the unique spelling of our last name, people at my husband’s workplace often pronounced it as "Loki." When we brought goats into our lives, they embodied the playful and mischievous spirit of the Norse god. Naming our farm "Loki Farms" felt like a perfect match. The addition of "Outpost" for our website reflects our goal of creating a place for trade, community, and sharing quality goods.
Our Journey and Growth
From the start, our mission has been to create something meaningful and unique. Although raising goats is new to us, life on the farm is familiar. With years of experience on dairy farms and raising cows and horses, we’ve gained the insights and skills needed for this lifestyle. Goats, however, brought a different kind of challenge and joy—and, in our eyes, they’re even better companions than cows!
We chose Oberhasli goats for their milk’s rich flavor, reminiscent of cow’s milk. Our initial trio of dam-raised goats tested our patience; they were skittish and difficult to handle but eventually came around. Despite their progress, they remained independent and hard to catch. Learning from this, we brought in three bottle-raised kids the following year, who proved much friendlier and enjoyed human interaction. We raised dam raised the next year and discovered that even with dedicated care, dam raised kids tend to be less approachable. This year, we plan to bottle-raise all our kids and retain the doelings to expand our herd. By next season, we look forward to introducing a new buck to strengthen our breeding program and move towards our goal of maintaining 12 does in milk.
Our Products and Vision
A core part of our mission is to offer raw milk that is both safe and clean. We now have the necessary permits to sell our milk as pet quality. With the intention of selling for human consumption as the goal, aiming to become a trusted local source. Our interest in crafting soap has also been an exciting journey. We’ve refined our recipes over time, and our most recent tallow-based batch has been our best yet. We’re eagerly awaiting the final results of our tallow and castor oil blend.
Our plans don’t stop there. With the garden progressing and chickens on the farm, we look forward to providing eggs and fresh produce. Every step we take is driven by the desire to turn this venture into a sustainable lifestyle, allowing us to focus on what we love and share it with our community.
Whether you're here for raw milk, handmade goat milk soaps, or simply to learn more about our farm, we hope you feel the warmth, quality, and care that Loki Farms is built on.
